Selkirk Press Field Trip

Understanding the printing process is an important aspect of being a graphic designer

October 18th Randy’s InDesign class took an industry tour of Selkirk Press. The students were shown how printing plates are created from film. They watched a printing demonstration by Mike Lewis on the Heidelberg GTO printing press. He showed how he was printing the first two colors of a 4-color job. Anthony Lewis demonstrated the Heidelberg Windmill Letter Press. This machine scores and perforates folds on printed jobs. They were also treated to Randy’s favorite piece of machinery the guillotine paper cutter. A guillotine cutter, also referred to as a stack paper cutter, is a high-volume paper cutter designed to cut through hundreds of papers at once.  We appreciate Wesley allowing her employees at Selkirk Printing to take time out of their busy day to visit with us and share their craft.
