Hugs Not Slugs!

Zachariah Cantrell

Lately, Luke’s Real Life class has been making posters with this slogan on them, “Hugs Not Slugs”, and putting them up on the walls around the school. What this slogan means is to “hug” someone with your words, not “slug” them. The reason that this is important enough to plaster around the entire school is that words really can hurt you. Now of course words can’t physically hurt you, but they can cut deep into a your emotions and self esteem. Even if it doesn’t look like that person is affected, in truth, emotions are actually building up inside. This build up can possibly lead to a multitude of problems, including: students dropping out, fights starting, drastic changes to someone’s personality, and even suicide. So next time you are about to be mean or cruel, think of the slogan, “Hugs Not Slugs!” It might just save someone’s life.
