Check and Connect

Most of you have probably haven’t heard of Check and Connect yet. Well, Check and Connect is a student intervention program that creates relationships between the teachers and the students. It was originally started to help give support to students who are having difficulties. Luke Childers, who is the Check and Connect coordinator, said this during an interview, “I am very excited to begin Check and Connect. I think that it will have a positive impact on the school.” Luke had also said that he hopes that Check and Connect lasts for a very long time. He speculates that 25-30% of the students in the school will participate.
Both teachers and students have been asked their opinions on Check and Connect, and everyone has said that it is a good idea. “I believe that the Check and Connect program is a good idea to help students get to know their teachers.” said Brent Barnes, a senior in this school.
Check and Connect is a mentorship program. The program pairs a teacher with a student of need to help them work through issues of academics and life. The goal is to get more students to engage in their education and school. Luke had this to say about the mentorship, “The mentorship program is an opportunity for students to gain knowledge in a low-risk environment.” Although it is too early to really tell, I think that the Check and Connect program will be a big hit.The principal, Jeoff Penrose, agrees with my sentiment.
